Sometimes, it takes a Super Bowl pass-catcher to know a Super Bowl pass-catcher. Keyshawn Johnson is partially right about the Buccaneers without Gronk.

The Buccaneers losing Rob Gronkowski to retirement has been one of the biggest stories of the past few weeks for the NFL.

The thought of seeing Tom Brady without one of his favorite pass-catchers might be hard for some in the Tampa hopeful to stomach, but the world keeps spinning.

Tampa Super Bowl champion Keyshawn Johnson knows as much, even if he is partially incorrect in his reasoning.

Johnson says that the Bucs will be fine without Gronk. This is true because we saw the offense keep churning for most of last season when Gronkowski was injured.

One of the best offenses in the NFL doesn’t lose that distinction because of one player. The Bucs already rely on their wide receivers far more, and Tom Brady has a way of elevating his supporting cast better than most.

Don’t expect any major changes on the offensive efficiency front if the team keeps on passing the ball.

The area where Johnson was wrong was in his reasoning. Tampa’s defense is not going to stop the bleeding of losing a Hall of Fame pass-catcher.

Unfortunately, while Tampa’s defense is good, it is not at the level that people saw it at during the Super Bowl against the Chiefs. That unit was one of the best to ever touch the field in the sport. The one that has played since then has fallen back to earth a bit.

The Bucs have plenty to lean on in this regard and can get back to that point that most people fell in love with, but let’s not pretend that this unit can carry the whole team just yet.

If the Buccaneers really do want to stem the bleeding of losing Rob Gronkowski, they are going to want to get busy on the free agent tight end front.
