Buccaneers veteran on the bubble heading into training camp
By Rob Leeds
Breshad Perriman only seems to click when he is playing for the Buccaneers. However, their time together could be coming to a close without a great camp.
Breshad Perriman’s career arc has been an extremely unique one. Coming into the NFL as a highly-touted pick but never being able to reach that standard made it so that Perriman was just looking for a home during his first stint with the Buccaneers.
After a breakout stretch, Perriman actually priced himself out of Tampa’s range and then found his way to New York; another area that he struggled to play up to his price tag on.
Perriman bounced around the league again quickly before finding himself back with the Bucs. This Tampa team looked different than the one that Perriman chose to leave in 2019, and the veteran receiver was able to make a huge play in one of the most important games of the season against the Bills to give the Bucs the win.
Can Perriman only play well in Tampa? It currently seems like that, and he is going to need to hope that he can bring some of that regular season talent with him into training camp if he wants to keep his job.
Some of the biggest cuts coming to the Bucs will be at the wide receiver position. At least one well-known and well-liked guy is going to get the axe, and that number could go up.
The top three guys and Tyler Johnson look safe, but everyone after that should have to earn their job again in camp. This will put Perriman up against a host of other guys that won’t be easy to beat, and Perriman has to win if he wants to keep his job.
A lackluster performance isn’t going to cut it here. The Bucs need a lot from each and every one of their wide receivers if they are going to make this season work.
Perriman is on the bubble based on his age and time with the team, but don’t count on him to go down easy. A couple of good weeks could be all that he needs to stay on the field.
