There might not be a player in the NFL that deserves a new deal more than Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans.

While Tom Brady will always be the true determinant of whether the Buccaneers will be good or bad, Mike Evans is going to be the heart and soul of this roster.

Everyone on the team loves Brady, but what Evans has done during his career is going to leave a major mountain for any offensive player to climb if they ever want to be remembered for a fraction of what Evans did.

Super Bowl champion, record-holder, Pro Bowler on a bad team, and the best offensive player in franchise history will be a tough act to follow. When you add in how team-focused Evans has been with his money, you have a recipe for a near-impossible legacy to recreate.

As teams across the NFL have to make difficult decisions just to make mediocre wide receivers some of the best-paid players in the league, Mike Evans has restructured his deal time and time again to give the Buccaneers as much flexibility as possible.

There isn’t another receiver in the NFL that continually handles their business in a way like this, and while the Bucs should be grateful for the opportunities this has given them, this new proposed extension feels more than fair.

Evans’ current deal looks like a steal when compared to most of his counterparts. Even the new deal, which could average as much as $27 million per year, is more than worth it in regards to his leadership, talent, and longevity.

This deal would just ensure that the Bucs are taking the proper care of one of their best players while also getting him through another major section of his career, almost completely ensuring that he stays a Buccaneer forever.

It may take a year or so before anything like this comes to fruition, but the Buccaneers need to figure this out sooner rather than later.
