The biggest weakness for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022
By John Paul
The Buccaneers look to be primed for another run and a magical season, but no team is impervious. Even the Bucs have weaknesses.
You would find no short supply of different opinions about what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers largest threats to their next season’s success are, however nearly all of them would probably be incorrect.
Behind the plethora of criticisms of the team’s inability to produce in the defensive secondary consistently or the tendency of their wide receivers to get hurt, their lies a much more dangerous threat lurking that would immediately knock the team out of playoff contention.
The Ryan Jensen news is still unconfirmed as of the writing of this article. Bad news on that end could quickly change the equation.
That Achilles’ Heel would be Tom Brady. For whatever reason, sports pundits, fans, and even the Bucs front office appear to believe that the man is invulnerable, even as he pushes forever onward into his mid 40s in age.
There is a shockingly low amount of coverage or worry that Brady will be able to get through a whole season without injury. It’s like, out of nowhere, people forgot that football is a contact sport, and at any point players can get hit and hurt, especially when they are as old as Brady.
People seem to forget that Brady played most of his first season with the Bucs with a hurt knee, that by his own admission he said was one bad hit away from taking him out for the season.
To the Bucs credit, they have done a pretty impressive job of protecting the future Hall of Famer throughout his tenure in Tampa Bay. However, that same front office has grossly failed in using this time with Brady at the helm to either acquire or train a solid replacement QB.
Even if Brady doesn’t get hurt, it boggles the mind a little bit to see the Bucs not have any QBs in the pipeline considering that they know Brady is done after this year.
For the sake of the Bucs season and football generally, everyone always hopes injuries don’t happen, but that would be to deny the nature of football, and the Bucs are definitely rolling the dice this season in regards to that.
