While there are no official reports out there yet, the Buccaneers may want to evaluate their options in the wake of Ryan Jensen going down at practice.
Look, no one should be getting too far ahead of this. Nothing has come out yet regarding Ryan Jensen and this season with the Buccaneers other than his exiting the field today with a reported knee injury.
The extent of that injury and how it is going to impact his season is news that will likely come later in the week or into the weekend.
People tend to run wild with news like this, and it is certainly far from impossible that we end up finding out that this injury was just a tweak, and Jensen could be back sooner than anyone thinks.
However, the reason why people already seem to believe Jensen is going to miss a long period of time is the coming off the field on a cart and the frequency with which that usually ties to ACL damage in the knee.
The Buccaneers fortunately take care of their players and Jensen will be back on the field at some point, but it is more than fair for Tampa to at least see what else is out there on the free agent market in an effort to keep doors open on moves that can keep the team in a position to win a Super Bowl.
Jensen is one of the best centers in the NFL, and the Bucs may want to look to the market to get a better option to replace some of his reps if they aren’t completely sold on Robert Hainsey as a first-year starter.
This should all bring former Browns center J.C. Tretter into the sights of the cautious Bucs. Nothing needs to happen just yet, but any bad news on Jensen officially coming out could make this a perfect pairing.
Tretter is no Jensen, but he will bring some of the mean while also being a quality starter in the league.
It would be impossible to completely replace Jensen, but Tretter is the best option on the market as it stands. How the Buccaneers see Robert Hainsey is going to play a huge role in how the team reacts to any bad news.
Hopefully Jensen is ok, and all of this speculation is for nothing.
