Tampa Bay Buccaneers massive loss impacts team greatly
By John Paul
Just as things seem to be hitting new high for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason with the acquisition of Julio Jones and reports that Chris Godwin’s recovery from his injury last year was progressing faster than many thought, bad luck has finally caught up with the team.
During practice this week, center Ryan Jensen went down with an injury reportedly crying out in pain as the injury occurred. Early reports from the camp and the fact that a guy as tough as Jensen was screaming out in pain don’t bode well for the Bucs’ chances of seeing him play this year.
At best, the Buccaneers are looking at playing without their star center for the majority of the season. This is a major hit to the team and the offensive line, which has emerged as one of the best in the league over the past two seasons. A large part of this is due to Jensen.
Unfortunately, there is no possible way to replace Jensen with someone as good as him this year, so the Bucs are going to have find a way to tape over that issue this season and hope it holds.
Without Jensen to anchor the middle of the line, that’s going to put a lot of pressure on the rest of the line to step up. Considering Tom Brady isn’t exactly known to be the most mobile quarterback in the league, it’ll be interesting to see how the Bucs try to remedy this issue as best they can.
As much as they want to win this year, it’s also important that the Bucs don’t try and prematurely rush Jensen back from a serious injury considering they just signed him to a multi-year contract, and they definitely would not want to jeopardize his future health by expediting his return no matter how much Bucs fans want him back.
Until the official injury report comes out, the NFL world will just have to wait and speculate, but regardless, the Buccaneers front office has some work to do.
