Former Buccaneers star has right idea about handling Ryan Jensen injury

Gerald McCoy may not be tied to the Buccaneers as a player any longer, but it seems like the team should listen to his ideas on solving problems.

One way or another, all signs point to the Buccaneers needing a plan for the better part of a full Super Bowl run without one of the best centers in the NFL.

Ryan Jensen has cemented himself as one of the best in the league and in the history of the Buccaneers as a lineman, and while there are no concrete numbers just yet, anyone betting on Jensen to be back when the Bucs need him the most is probably a bit too naive.

With Jensen all but assured to be out, people have begun discussing what the team should do with a gap at such an important position, and Gerald McCoy took to Twitter with what should become the obvious decision by a team that values winning above all else.

McCoy is referring to former Browns center J.C. Tretter in his Tweet, and McCoy isn’t alone.

Tretter is the best center on the market right now and should fit within the shrinking confines of Tampa’s budget. This front office is the one to make magic happen if Tretter is seen as a need and the money isn’t as abundant as it was a few months back.

Still, this is the right move. Robert Hainsey is well-liked by the staff, but counting on two new guys to step into starting roles on the interior of the line (Luke Goedeke and Hainsey) during what should be Brady’s last season is a gamble.

When you look at the fact that all three starters on the interior are going to be new with Jensen out and Ali Marpet retired, the Bucs may just see a couple of veterans and one young guy as a better cushion than two young guys and Shaq Mason.

Hainsey is a gamble. Tretter is much less of one. The Buccaneers don’t need to gamble on what could be one of their last great seasons for a cycle. They should probably listen to McCoy.
