No-brainer free agents the Buccaneers need to call during camp to win
By Rob Leeds
If the Buccaneers really do want to make this season their best chance at winning Tom Brady’s final Super Bowl, more signings are needed.
As much as it seems like this would be a good place for the Buccaneers to call it quits on the free agent market, the exact opposite is true for a team that wants to be one of the best in the NFL and hold that distinction.
Moves should never stop for a team that wants to be the best. There are holes on the roster for Tampa, and the team should get these addressed as soon as possible if they want to win in 2022.
Player #1
J.C. Tretter
It makes sense that the Buccaneers want to see Robert Hainsey step into the role of the starting center. In any other situation, it probably makes the most sense when you have been drafting as well as the Bucs do.
Still, putting another new face in at starting center when the left and right guards are also new is a shaky prospect. Shaq Mason is a known quantity on the right side, but counting on Hainsey and Luke Goedeke to maintain the remarkable standard that Ryan Jensen and Ali Marpet created is a little too optimistic.
A veteran is just safer for a team that desperately needs this season to go well. J.C. Tretter has a higher ceiling and floor than Hainsey in 2022 in Tampa, and for that reason he should be a target for the Bucs.
