As much as it seemed concerning to see another key Buccaneers player go down, the fanbase can rest assured that Tristan Wirfs is okay.
Phew. It seemed like disaster was about to strike again at Buccaneers training camp.
After the Bucs lost Ryan Jensen last week, any additional injuries to the offensive line would be catastrophic. The loss of an All-Pro would be even worse.
Tristan Wirfs leaving the field on a golf cart was not the sight that Buccaneers fans wanted to see. Losing Wirfs and Jensen would probably put a major cap on the ceiling for the team. Most teams don’t win Super Bowls with four new starters on their offensive line, even a team with Tom Brady.
The cohesiveness of that unit played a huge role in Tampa’s improvements over the past two seasons, and 2022 looks like the year where Wirfs cements his name as one of the two best tackles in football.
None of that happens with an injury.
The good news for the Buccaneers is that Wirfs is going to be okay. Early news seems to indicate a cramp was the issue, something that is par for the course during one of the early weeks of practice and in this heat.
Anyone who has ever suffered a cramp like this knows that a trainer and a few minutes of limping are completely normal, and the Bucs won’t need to rip their hair out with worry again.
On the other side of the injury front, Breshad Perriman is still not back yet and Ryan Jensen’s full diagnosis has not been disclosed. Hopefully both of these other Bucs can heal up quickly.
The Buccaneers are also surely hoping that they are getting all of their injuries and nicks out of the way early into camp and that this will not be a common trend going forward.
