There are few players on the Buccaneers that needed a better practice today more than quarterback Kyle Trask.

While some, including this site, do not see Kyle Trask as a true heir to the quarterback position for the Buccaneers as one of the best fits, it makes sense that the coaching staff would see it differently after investing a second-round pick in him.

One rookie season where he did not play and one terrible week in training camp is not enough for a staff to move on from such a high pick-even if the pick shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

Still, Trask is not doing much to sell the world on his future in the franchise. Failing to beat out Blaine Gabbert as a backup and making terrible throws against backups is not not how you inspire confidence in your abilities.

The good news for Trask and his supporters is that today was a much better practice, and it appears that the slid has been halted. This couldn’t come at a better time with such an important game quickly approaching.

The preseason game on Saturday for the Buccaneers against the Dolphins is going to be of little importance to most players and onlookers. Trask is a different story.

The young quarterback needs to look great in the preseason to have any hope of making a name for himself over the next year. The matchup against the Dolphins is going to feature a lot of Kyle Trask, and a good performance here would go a long way to silencing the critics.

However, a bad showing against the backups for Miami would only dig Trask into a deeper hole.

The performance needs to be great to start flipping the script. Hopefully today will serve as a turning point before a much better back half of training camp.
