Tyler Johnson just made life much easier for the Buccaneers coaching staff by showing them that he absolutely deserves a roster spot.

It never really seemed like a real question to this writer, but some people actually believed that the Buccaneers could part ways with wide receiver Tyler Johnson during training camp.

Trading him for assets is one thing, but there were people out there that believed he should be cut for nothing in return.

Those people look pretty silly now.

Johnson was the best player on the field for the Buccaneers last night. What he did with contested catches, after the catch, and as the primary option was exactly what we all needed to see.

The final stat line of six receptions for 73 yards led the team in both categories.

It’s easy to overreact to preseason games, but Johnson is the type of player that should always dominate in situations like that. The fact that he did proves that he is the player that the optimistic think he is.

Johnson was originally drafted to serve in a  WR3 role. We haven’t really had the chance to see him with that many reps due to players like Antonio Brown and Julio Jones coming to town, but Johnson should get his chances with the injuries that are bound to happen at the top, and performances like last night should excite everyone about his chances in the regular season.

The Bucs have no choice now but to keep Johnson on their roster going forward, and that does help in many ways when considering how hard it is going to be to make cuts.

In a year where every decision is going to be extremely important, having a player like Johnson take the choice away is going to make life much easier for the Buccaneers coaching staff and their impossible task ahead.
