Signing Carl Nassib was always the right move for the Buccaneers with their current roster configuration. He fits with the team like a glove.

What a great night for the Buccaneers. The loss of Cam Gill for an undetermined period of time is going to hurt, but getting Carl Nassib back after a few years away is something to celebrate.

It’s always nice to see players come back to Tampa after some time away. Breshad Perriman was a fun guy to get back last season and has his own unique moments, and it looks like Nassib is going to be that player for the Bucs in 2022.

Nassib comes to the Bucs as a day one fit. There isn’t much retooling that is going to need to happen to get the newest addition up to speed.

The veteran pass-rusher has made a career out of being able to make the most of rotational reps, and that is exactly what he is going to get with this defense.

The Bucs can use Nassib on the inside as they did Jason Pierre-Paul last season with Joe Tryon-Shoyinka on the outside, but they can also line him up as a true outside linebacker and let him work his way to the quarterback.

Nassib’s last few years with the Raiders were nothing special, but how special can it be when your coach is Jon Gruden? You essentially have to overlook those seasons, and the overall sample for Nassib’s career shows that he can still help the Bucs in more areas than just their defense.

The loss of Cam Gill is likely what greased the wheels of this deal up in the first place, and that means that Nassib is going to need to be a willing participant in this area of the game. The good news for this is that Nassib played 107 special teams snaps for the Raiders between the regular season and in the playoffs in 2021.

This might not be enough to completely replace Gill on ST, but it will do enough to make that loss slightly more bearable, and it is also worth mentioning that Nassib could be in competition for the third pass-rushing job by the end of camp.

Excellent signing by the Buccaneers.
