The current injuries could make the process a little complicated, but the Buccaneers could be cutting wide receiver Breshad Perriman sooner than later.

Cutting a veteran is never a fun process. No team ever wants to do it, but franchises like the Buccaneers don’t get to where they are at by mishandling their roster.

Tough decisions are needed to keep the team in the best position to win, and the Bucs started with the somewhat-surprising decision to cut veteran Ross Cockrell.

Cockrell was already a likely cut for the 53-man roster, but the timing was still unexpected when looking at the potential need for depth during the preseason.

With this same thought in mind, Cockrell isn’t going to be the only veteran that gets cut earlier than some think he should. Breshad Perriman might not be far behind.

Perriman is a good receiver, playing some of his best football while wearing pewter and red, but he doesn’t make a lot of sense for the team in a long-term sense.

The Buccaneers have a mountain of young talent that they have actually seen play over the past few weeks, and any missed time due to injuries is going to actively work against the veteran.

If the Bucs have young guys that they see upside with, it makes far more sense to go with the younger and cheaper options that can also potentially help on special teams while looking for a buyout with the veteran/

This doesn’t mean that Perriman may not end up with the Bucs again later in the season if a series of injuries occur, but it seems like a stretch to find him on the roster at the start of the season, and for this reason the team should cut bait early to give their player as much time as possible to find a new home.
