Is one drop enough to cost a veteran a roster spot? For Buccaneers wide receiver Scotty Miller, this just might be all the ammunition the team needs.

People are going to say that this is nit-picking. That might be a more than fair take when it comes to Scotty Miller and his future with the Buccaneers.

It makes sense. Miller is loved by the fanbase. Being a part of one of the best moments in franchise history will have that impact on a player.

Still, Miller is supposed to do one thing better than everyone else, and dropping a dime on a deep pass is not how the veteran receiver is going to secure his future with the Buccaneers.

The key drop happened in a moment that Miller will certainly want back.

After throwing the ball just short of Miller on a breakaway last weekend, Kyle Trask was on the money with his speedy receiver tonight.

Trask put the ball right in a perfect position, yet the ball bounced off the ground rather than going for a huge touchdown.

Again, Scotty Miller generally has one job. Drops like this can’t happen.

The wide receiver race is extremely tight for the Buccaneers as it stands. Jaelon Darden and Tyler Johnson are going to be very hard to replace on the depth chart, and beating out one of the undrafted free agent rookies is going to be hard to do if Miller drops passes like that.

There is still another half to play and Miller was able to redeem himself slightly with another decent catch, but not being able to be reliable on deep passes with poor drops is not how Scotty Miller will make his way onto this Buccaneers roster.

The vet was already on the hot seat. That seat is heating up.
