Mistake shows Buccaneers still have an issue at quarterback

While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren’t worried about who will be starting at quarterback this year due to Tom Brady’s re-emergence from retirement, there is doubt on where the franchise will go next season, especially since the team’s best chance continues to not show too much promise.

With barely two minutes remaining in the half, Bucs QB Kyle Trask threw to what can only be perceived as an imaginary receiver. The ball Trask threw looked like practically everything except a tight spiral and inevitably ended as one would think, with an interception.

The Tennessee Titans would go on to use that turnover and great field positioning to grab a quick touchdown before the half.

Even when Trask was facing pressure as he was, getting the ball away has already been an issue in his game, and letting pressure like that impact the throw is not the positive step that the team wanted to see.

This just adds more evidence to the fact that the Bucs are not nearly as equipped to handle the inevitable departure of Tom Brady as some fans might like to think.

And, of course, Trask is still young, but one has to ask how many seasons can you give a QB to get beyond the silly mistakes before you finally start asking questions about those mistakes. There are good moments there, but the consistency isn’t.

Trask has yet to show anything close to the skill that Bucs fans and ownership should require from their QBs in a future that may not have another quality quarterback on the roster.

The fact that some Bucs fans think a QB as talented as Trask is up to that task shows the soft bigotry of low expectations that Tampa Bay was known for during the pre-Brady era.

It is okay to expect more.
