It seems as though there is a new person to thank for the recent success that the Buccaneers have experienced. Thank you for the help, Jon Gruden.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have two Super Bowl wins in franchise history. Jon Gruden had a hand in both wins.
Everyone knows how the first one went down. Whether actually the missing piece or not, Gruden’s arrival in Tampa helped take the team over the hump and into the Promised Land.
Gruden’s help with the second win is a bit more unique.
The Buccaneers hadn’t been involved with their former coach for a while before their miraculous 2020 Super Bowl run, but that didn’t stop Gruden from helping his former team.
According to Dana White and backed up by Rob Gronkowski, the original meeting place between Tom Brady and Gronk was not Tampa. The original destination was Las Vegas with the Raiders, a team coached by Gruden.
Rather than making the obvious choice to win with players like Gronk and Brady, Gruden decided to blow the deal up, sending the duo to Tampa.
It seems as though maybe the Buccaneers should say ‘thank you’ to their former coach and former Ring of Honor member again, even if a revelation like this is still not enough to put him back in the ROH.
When it is all said and done, the Bucs should be thanking Gruden for being such a bad head coach and evaluator of talent. The Raiders were terrible in this regard with free agency and draft picks during the Gruden tenure, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone that he was also able to miss on a player as sure as Brady.
Jon Gruden. Tampa Bay Buccaneers legend. Just maybe not for all of the right reasons when it is all said and done. Still, these wins have his name on them, and that is enough.
