Is Jake Camarda the truth for the Buccaneers? It might be too soon to tell. But we know that the Bucs are happier with who they have than the Bills.
Taking a punter in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft was not the highpoint for the Buccaneers.
Jake Camarda was a great college punter and was going to simultaneously improve the position for the Bucs while also saving the team money, but the fourth round seemed a little high.
To make matters worse for the Camarda pick, a huge group of NFL fans and Buccaneers fans had San Diego State punter Matt Ariaza as a lock to be the best at his position and a perfect fit for Tampa.
A huge leg and a great college tape was enough to sell most people, but the Bucs went a different direction, and it seems like they will be thankful for the decision they made.
Camarda may not be able to kick the ball as far as Ariaza or with as much hang time as his counterpart, but Camarda also isn’t in the news right now.
Matt Ariaza has made headlines recently when a civil suit was filed regarding a sexual assault allegation from his days in college.
A report was filed with the police according to the story the day after the event, as some people reading this are sure to say, “oh, look at when she did this. She is just chasing money.”
The report was filed before Araiza was drafted far too high for his position. That is relevant in a story like this.
These are the facts. How this will play out remains to be seen, but it certainly isn’t anything to sweep under the rug.
Again, what a bullet the Buccaneers dodged. The team didn’t need another distraction leading into the season, and having a divisive player on the roster like another Antonio Brown is the last thing the team needs when it is in the hunt for a Super Bowl.
Jake Camarda was the much better pick.
