If you haven’t been paying attention to Buccaneers running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn during the preseason, you should probably start now.

After entering the preseason as a shaky pick at best to make the roster for the Buccaneers, Ke’Shawn Vaughn has done very well to show that he belongs on this team in contention for the Super Bowl in 2022.

The path to getting here hasn’t always been pretty, but this offseason has shown us that Vaughn is going to be a much better back than the one we have seen in the past.

Some of these games were far from pretty. The Bucs looked lost on offense and struggled to do anything creative to make the most of their weapons. Still, these were some of Vaughn’s best career games.

With 29 rushes for 109 yards and two touchdowns, the stats don’t exactly jump off the page, but it is worth looking at the context. Vaughn was able to do all of this with virtually no passing attack to open up the defense and no misdirection to keep the defense from guessing the play.

Vaughn did almost all of this going between the tackles when the defense knew it was coming. Those 3.8 yards per carry did not come easy, and even the inferior competition isn’t enough to brush these reps off as nothing.

The Buccaneers may still like what Rachaad White brings to the table more than a guy that still struggles a little in the passing game, but the team has a quality stable for the first time in a few years with three guys that can contribute at will.

Assuming the improvements keep coming, running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn could be a far different player in 2022 than the one that we have seen for the past few years as he discovered himself.
