Buccaneers Silver Medal: Brandon Walton

Perhaps this one is a bit of a shocker, but hear us out. It’s no secret that the offensive line of the Buccaneers has been in shambles already in this young 2022 NFL season. They were already without Donovan Smith, and then backup Josh Wells went down.

As such, Brady has been under duress for much of the season, and yesterday was no different. However, when thrid-string left tackle Brandon Walton entered the game, Brady would drop back to pass 35 times and was only sacked once.

They played the entire second half with their third-string left tackle, and perhaps not so coincidentally, that’s when the offense was able to move the ball and score some points.

The thing is, even with the offensive line in the condition they were in physically, they did show signs of improvement throughout the game as compared to the opener in Dallas. It is certainly an uplifting sign for both the team and fans moving forward.

Walton was certainly an unsung hero of the game, to the point where in the above photo he is obscured by Demario Davis of the Saints. Such is life though for a third-string tackle, but we’ll give Walton his just due with the silver medal.
