Buccaneers Gold Medal: The entire defense

Ok time for this writer to come clean, like the chrome future in Spongebob clean. After pouring over the game tape and box scores, the process of trying to narrow down the three best performers on the defense took an embarrassing amount of time. The intent was for all three medalists to be defenders, but we’ll just give the entire unit the gold. Fair? Perfect.

Let’s just give a quick rundown because honestly, we can talk about this defense all day, but luckily we’re most likely going to be talking about it a lot more as the season progresses.

Simply put, this defense smacks.

Devin White was once again showing why he deserves his money, leading all players with 11 total tackles and recording another sack. Carlton Davis was second for all players in tackles with nine, and led all players with eight solo tackles, adding a clutch fumble recovery to boot.

Antoine Winfield Jr. kept his habit of flying around the ball and even added a sack when he was shot out of a cannon to drill Jameis Winston. Speaking of sacks, of Winston, the Bucs sacked the former Bucs quarterback six times, with Shaq Barrett leading the way with a deuce.

Jamel Dean also added a pair of picks with Mike Edwards adding a pick-six which has become a habit for his career. The man just loves the Superdome. On the topic of habits, Jameis kept his up by getting sacked and throwing interceptions in great numbers during Buccaneers’ games.

The defense of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is legit and is the main reason this team is 2-0. Don’t worry though, the offense will catch up and when it does, this team has the potential to steamroll what looks like a weakened NFC on their way to another hopeful Super Bowl run.
