NFL takes unfair steps with Buccaneers WR Mike Evans
By Rob Leeds
If the Buccaneers were in trouble without Chris Godwin and Julio Jones, the loss of Mike Evans to a suspension in Week 3 is only going to hurt even more.
Most of us probably saw this coming with Mike Evans. The win for the Buccaneers was excellent, but what good will they be without their three starting wide receivers when they have to play the Packers?
After a huge hit from Mike Evans that put Marshon Lattimore on his butt during a scuffle, the Buccaneers were able to pull together and finish the game on a bright note after the receiver and corner were removed from the game.
The immediate result was great for Tampa, but there are going to be ramifications that are going to hurt the team going forward.
Tom Brady is going to be without another one of his starting receivers on Sunday against the Packers after news just broke that Mike Evans will suspended for one game.
This is terrible news for the Buccaneers. Wide receivers are a vital part of modern NFL offenses, and the Bucs are losing one of the best in the business over a decision that could’ve easily gone either way.
Tempers flared in the moment. Sure, Evans shouldn’t have hit Lattimore, but Lattimore shouldn’t have been in a scuffle with Leonard Fournette and Tom Brady.
Acting like Lattimore is completely innocent and Evans is the main instigator is an unfair characterization of the situation. The blame should go both ways for something like this, especially when looking at the history of the rivalry.
If Evans gets suspended, Lattimore should be too.
Either way, the Bucs are still 2-0, and that is the big takeaway when looking at all of this. It just still seems unfair for a guy like Evans that should be on the field next weekend when the Buccaneers need him most.
