After a scary week in the Tampa Bay area, the Buccaneers are fortunate to keep their chance to play a game in front of their home crowd.

Not that it was a true concern for anyone in the Tampa Bay area, but there was a chance that the Buccaneers were going to lose another home game on their 2022 schedule due to the landfall of Hurricane Ian.

Ian ended up landing further south than originally indicated by most initial maps, and most of the Tampa area was able to escape the majority of the severe damage from one of the worst storms in area history.

As many Floridians along the west coast focus on cleaning up the damage and helping out friends and loved ones, the Buccaneers are going to give them a chance to rally around something else with the news that they are keeping their home game at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday night against the Chiefs.

Rallying around football might sound silly for some people as they try to piece their lives together after a terrible tragedy. However, sporting events have a history of bringing tragedy-stricken communities together in their wakes. The Saints after Hurricane Katrina. George W. Bush throwing the first pitch after 9/11.

These moments matter for communities that adore their teams and sports so much. The Buccaneers will now get to keep that chance.

After escaping down to Miami to avoid the worst of the storm and still get a chance to play, the Bucs will come back up to Tampa with the goal of beating a tough Chiefs team with the benefit of playing in front of a strong and thankful crowd.

Games like this don’t erase the pain and tragedy that horrific events and disasters entail, but the Tampa community is going to get to rally around the Buccaneers on Sunday night, and you best believe that crowd will be more than eager to be there and show their support.
