Buccaneers player likely saves job with performance in win
By Rob Leeds
Scotty Miller hans’t been great to start the season for the Buccaneers, but he did play much better today in the win over the Falcons.
After a few weeks of it seeming more and more likely that Scotty Miller could be on his way off the Buccaneers with some really bad stretches, the young receiver was able to bounce back with a decent performance against the Falcons.
Miller finished the game with just four receptions for 35 yards, but the final box score does not tell the whole story. Tom Brady still looked very comfortable targeting the smaller outside receiver, and this was able to show itself in a couple of great routes down the field that should have drawn pass interference calls.
Every Buccaneers fan knows that the refs weren’t at the top of their game today.
Still, even when these plays did not go in Miller’s favor, this happening twice where the calls should’ve gone the same way was a good sign that we could be going back to the old Miller.
Is the young receiver going to be able to maintain this level of play over the next few weeks? That seems like a lot to assume after what we saw through the first four weeks, but it is certainly on the table that Miller has saved his job for one more week with a performance like this.
The Buccaneers have little other choice than to let Miller stay in the lineup for next week unless something dramatic changes, and Tom Brady finding a way to connect on some of those deep shots is going to go a long way to maximizing Scotty Miller’s limited reps when he is on the field.
Maybe we will get back to the player we once saw soon.
