In what has already been a tumultuous last few weeks for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they’ve scrambled to keep things together after multiple brutal losses, they’ve unfortunately been dealt yet another tough blow due to injuries.
It’s being reported that defensive back Logan Ryan is now set to undergo surgery on his foot to repair a fracture. The surgery is projected to keep him off the field until the end of the season or playoffs.
This is a huge blow to the Bucs secondary, which has struggled so far this season. It was the Bucs’ hope that a veteran defensive back like Ryan could help remedy the team’s inability to prevent every QB the Bucs face from having career days.
Unfortunately, it seems that the Bucs are going to have to make do with what they have considering there are no worthwhile free agents on the market or money to spend on them if there was.
Ryan’s injury adds to the growing list of important Buccaneers players that have been on the sidelines recently.
Star wide receiver Julio Jones has already missed four games this year and isn’t expected back till mid-November.
Defensive end Akiem Hicks has also missed four games and his return is still up in the air it seems. Without him in the starting lineup, the Bucs’ run defense has fallen to 7th in the league as opposed to past years when it was always one of, if not the best.
Injuries are always a part of football, and the current situation the Bucs are in, while unfortunate, should have been expected to a certain degree. So, now it’s up to the coaches and healthy players to step up and carry the load until the team is back to 100%.
