Betting odds on quarterback should make Buccaneers fans cry
By Rob Leeds
The Buccaneers have a lot of issues on their roster right now but the quarterback position isn’t one of them. It would be if this trade happened.
There are a ton of things going wrong for the Buccaneers right now. From injuries to coaching, it feels like the team can’t catch a break right now.
The one area that isn’t completely failing is at quarterback. Tom Brady might not be playing at a MVP pace right now, but he is still far from an issue for this team.
The quarterback position may not be an issue for Tampa right now, but it would be if the team went after a quarterback like Mac Jones.
While many people would’ve ruled this out as a possibility a while ago, the Patriots having a new contender at quarterback and Tampa’s dire cap situation make this somewhat feasible.
The betting odds for Jones’ future paint a very scary future.
This is almost sickening. The thought of Mac Jones being the head of this offense is not one that inspires much confidence in the future of this franchise after Tom Brady leaves.
Jones may not be a terrible quarterback but he is far from good. A safe and easy system in New England that asks very little of the quarterback is what led to a Pro Bowl selection, although that award means next to nothing in the modern NFL.
The Patriot quarterback has been in a favorable spot for most of his career, a position in New England that is so easy that Bailey Zappe has already replaced him.
Jones is not a franchise quarterback in the NFL, especially not one that would work with what the Bucs have constructed in Tampa.
Tampa already has a backup quarterback on its roster. The team doesn’t need another one.
