Buccaneers need to make easy change to lineup to help offense
By Rob Leeds
The Buccaneers are struggling too much on the offensive end to maintain the status quo. A change is needed to the starting lineup.
There is a lot that the Buccaneers will need to fix in the coming days if they want a way to finish out the rest of this season at a respectable pace.
For starters, it would sure be nice to see Todd Bowles give Byron Leftwich the boot, but for some reason it feels like that is out of the question as of now.
Still, Leftwich has been terrible, and the entire unit needs to be better if Bowles wants to keep his seat from heating up.
One area where the Bucs can fix their woes on offense by killing two birds with one stone is with the starting running back. Fournette is up against it all things considered, but acting like he is going to cut it when the run is struggling this much is silly.
A change is needed to give the Bucs more chances on the ground (per Bowles’ wishes) and to make the most of those reps.
The good news for Tampa is that Rachaad White is on the roster and has looked good for most of the season in his limited capacity. The outright stats may not look great, but the RB2 has still been head and shoulders better than Fournette on passing downs as a receiver and as a blocker.
It is clear to anyone that watches that Fournette’s biggest strength is not his vision. Mixing this with an offensive line that already struggles to block on rushing downs is a recipe for disaster.
Does White fix the game in one move? Absolutely not, but he will be better at overcoming the lines getting clogged at a higher rate and will do better at keeping Tom Brady protected.
The Bucs need to make the change.
