Todd Bowles wasting time with obvious Buccaneers decision
By Rob Leeds
The Buccaneers don’t need to let Byron Leftwich coach one more game this season. Todd Bowles needs to fire his offensive coordinator immediately.
The Buccaneers need to make moves as soon as possible if they want to save their season.
What we have seen from this team so far simply isn’t cutting it. Tampa has looked bad in nearly ever facet of the game, and none of these struggles are more egregious than what we have seen with the offense.
Despite all of the talent, the Bucs have one of the worst and least successful offensive units in the league. This absolutely can’t happen with a team that has Tom Brady at quarterback in an offensive-oriented era of the game.
There are a dozens of problems with this unit that will take weeks or months to fix, but the best way to get the ball rolling is by firing Byron Leftwich.
Firing Leftwich isn’t some type of immediate fix, but it does help, and the best way to eat an elephant is to start with one bite.
Leftwich’s play-calling has been stale, predictable, and just doesn’t work with what opposing defenses are giving. The Bucs can’t score and can’t keep the ball away from their opponents, and a bit of fresh blood in the role would be a great way to show what we have seen is inexcusable.
This is a decision that has to happen. Bowles is wasting time with every day that passes without the tough decision coming.
It might be hard to move on from a coach that is not so far removed from giant success, but letting this situation fester is not how Bowles is going to protect his job and get his team back on track to compete.
