Disgraced Buccaneers coach could be on his way back to Tampa
By Rob Leeds
It has been a while since Buccaneers fans have heard about Jon Gruden after the events of a year ago. Now, it looks like Gurden could come back to Tampa.
The Jon Gruden saga of a year ago was messy. The entire event shed light on areas of the NFL that the league never wanted to see. The implications went beyond just one coach, although the impact on the former Buccaneers head coach and his career was severe.
Gruden, a storied member of the first Buccaneers team to win a Super Bowl, was placed on a pedestal in Tampa by going into the Bucs Ring of Honor. The rise was meteoric, but fall and subsequent removal from the ROH was equally impactful.
A move like that by the Buccaneers is hard for any one person to overcome. Gruden has basically no shot of ever making it as an NFL head coach again, but it sounds like there is a chance for Gruden to make it as a college coach in the same stadium that took his name from the rafters almost a year ago.
In what is turning out to be a very bizarre turn of events, USF showing interest in Gruden is almost poetry based on how crazy it actually is when you think about it.
The Bulls, who don’t have their own stadium yet, play all of their games at Raymond James Stadium. Gruden could be standing on the same field that made him famous and where his name used to stand in the rafters. What a strange time this is.
While we wouldn’t bank on this move happening for a variety of reasons from Gruden’s end and USF’s, it sure would be crazy to see Jon Gruden coming back to the city where his career reached its peak.
