Fans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a lot to be frustrated about, but also a lot to be thankful for. One Buccaneers has been an absolute godsend.
Of all the things that can be pointed at for the, shall we say, “inconsistent” start to the 2022 NFL season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (and there are many) the struggles of the offensive line have been either near or at the top of most lists for Buccaneers fans.
The decline in the quality of play from the trenches, due to injuries, departures and lack of experience has affected the entire offense. It’s lead to the Bucs having the worst rushing attack, like ever, even if it isn’t for a lack of trying. It’s also affected Tom Brady.
Brady may have a lot going on personally, and that’s certainly a factor, but his offensive line hasn’t been helping. One of the reasons he’s the GOAT is his ability to get the ball out at warp speed. However, it doesn’t matter if you’re Tom Brady, Dan Marino, or the “Throwin’ Samoan” Jack Thompson (couldn’t help it), if you don’t have protection, it makes it extremely difficult for you to do your job as a quarterback effectively.
Fortunately, it has not been all bad for the Buccaneers offense of line.
Tristan Wirfs has been the best right tackle in football ever since his rookie season. Sure, there are always people who will debate that, as with everything, but the fact of the matter is it’s pretty much just a fact at this point. If for whatever reason any Bucs fan sound believers, try this went on for size.
What can you even say? As far as this writer is concerned, there is nothing anyone can say because the certified lunacy of this stat resulted in speechlessness.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are far from perfect, but that doesn’t mean they’re in trouble either. The team and fans alike should take pride knowing they have the best right tackle in football in Tristan Wirfs, and should have him for years to come.
