Buccaneers need quarterback change if coaches stay in place

It looks like the Buccaneers aren’t making any coaching changes during the season. If this is the group going forward, the team needs a quarterback change.

There is still a lot of football to go for the Buccaneers before we really have to start thinking about next season, but the writing is on the wall in some areas that helps everyone prepare for the future.

As it stands, it doesn’t seem like Todd Bowles and Byron Leftwich are going anywhere. While the team probably should make a change, that just doesn’t seem like it is in the cards at the moment.

With this in mind and also looking at the fact that Tom Brady has a decent chance of being done after this season, the Buccaneers need to make a personnel change going forward at quarterback (obviously Brady keeps the job if he says, but let’s pretend that he doesn’t).

If Brady is gone and the coaches stay in place, the Buccaneers need a quarterback that can run the football.

We are seeing more and more that mobile quarterbacks are dramatic game-changers in the run game. Justin Fields, Lamar Jackson, and Kyler Murray have been huge parts of their team’s rushing attack at various parts of their careers, and we even saw something similar starting with Trey Lance before he went down with an injury.

Mobile quarterbacks help out run games by forcing defenses to have to focus on one more athlete out of the backfields. Blaine Gabbert, Kyle Trask, and Ryan Griffin aren’t these players that anyone worries about.

If the Buccaneers truly want to be a run-first team, they are going to need a new look at quarterback to help bring them into the modern era with their obsolete ideals on the ground.

The 2023 NFL Draft is going to be a great place to start.
