NFL needs to do right by Buccaneers legend after announcement
By Rob Leeds
This is the time; the NFL can’t let another year go by without letting Buccaneers legend Ronde Barber into the Hall of Fame.
Every year that Ronde Barber stays out of the Hall of Fame hurts the validity of the establishment. The Buccaneers great deserves every bit of the honor that comes from being in the most prestigious group for the sport.
From his play on the field to the way he led his team so successfully, Barber is the epitome of what the league is looking for with its hall of fame.
You want stats? Barber has those. The Buccaneer Ring of Honor member has plenty of the stats that are normal for corners with passes defended (197) and interceptions(47), but he was also able to set himself apart with his ability to rush the passer.
Twenty-eight sacks is not the norm for a corner in the NFL. This stat is not talked about nearly enough, and it should be used as one of the key points that will help when Barber inevitably makes it in.
In addition to his stats on the field, Barber was as accomplished as any. From team awards and Super Bowl rings to All-Pro selections, Barber has been able to do a bit of everything.
It doesn’t matter how you slice it; Ronde Barber deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Sure, there are other players that deserve to be in as well, but it has been long enough.
Not just a Buccaneer great, Barber was hugely influential in the modern construction of position less defensive backs. Guys that dominate the league today are here in part due to Barber’s legacy, and that is the definition of a player that belongs in the Hall of Fame.
The NFL needs to do the right thing this time around.
