Biggest danger to the Buccaneers on the Cleveland Browns
By Rob Leeds
As an unstoppable force moves closer to an immovable object, the Buccaneers are going to need to come up with a plan for one Cleveland weapon in particular.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are about to face off against one of the best offenses in the NFL led by one of the most underrated offensive players in the league.
No, that player is not Nick Chubb, the running back that is fairly considered one of the top three at his position in the league at any given moment. No, the underrated star of the Browns has been journeyman quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
A quick look at Brissett’s stats don’t cause anyone to double over, but 2,398 passing yards for 11 touchdowns, and five picks on 64.4% passing is nothing to turn your nose at. Adding in another 211 yards on the ground with two touchdowns also isn’t bad.
Brissett has been the one player that has really surprised on that side of the ball, and it generally shows. The Browns are currently 10th in the NFL in overall scoring with 24 ppg (compared to 18.3 by the Buccaneers).
The Browns have worse receivers and offensive linemen than the Bucs, yet they are scoring an extra touchdown per game when compared to Tampa. That’s on play-calling and the quarterback play.
If the Bucs want to win this game, they need to find a way to shut down the thing that isn’t obvious. Tampa played a game like this last season; Carson Wentz and the Colts almost beat the Bucs. Jonathan Taylor wasn’t the issue.
The Bucs aren’t the type of team that can overlook any quarterback given their history. The Buccaneers surely can’t do that same thing this season when they face off against one of the most underrated players in the league.
Establish the pass, then stop their pass.
