Buccaneers need to quickly solve pressing Todd Bowles issue
By Rob Leeds
The Buccaneers front office may be the only group that can save the team right now. The coaching woes have become too great to overcome.
No one should envy the coming job of the members of the Buccaneers front office. This group is going to have a very difficult few months coming up as they try to navigate some very turbulent seas.
While the play from the players hasn’t been all that much better, the team as a whole is falling painfully short of the expectations placed upon them before the season because of terrible coaching. Todd Bowles and Byron Leftwich are killing this team, but a simple fix isn’t apparent just yet.
Bowles and Leftwich both deserve to get fired after what we have seen, yet fans shouldn’t count on either coach getting the boot as of now.
This quote from Bowles shows that he is just as timid off the football field as he is when he’s on it. Refusing to fire Leftwich despite Tampa having one of the worst offenses in the NFL is a massive mistake.
We are getting new evidence every week that a change is needed to save this offense from the terrible scheme and sequencing that we have seen, but Leftwich isn’t moving any closer to being off the team.
This decision comes down to Bowles and it shows that he is still unwilling to make the difficult decisions for the good of the team.
The Buccaneers have a massive Todd Bowles problem. Firing him looks like the only fix, but even this feels a little difficult prospect less than one full season into his tenure. It would be a surprise decision, but the Bucs need to do the opposite of Bowles and make the choice for the better of the team if they want to turn things around this year or next.
