Tom Brady and the Buccaneers should’ve left the split while it was clean.
Tom Brady coming back to the Buccaneers after just 40 days of retirement will always be one of the strangest parts of the last few years for the franchise.
The news that the GOAT was coming back was met with open arms. The team was back in position to compete for the playoffs after a month of having to accept that the future was Kyle Trask and Blaine Gabbert. Brady even had another chance to win MVP with the Bucs.
Unfortunately, most of these goals are all but forgotten. Brady isn’t winning MVP. Hell, the Buccaneers don’t even look like a playoff team right now.
The Bucs have become one of the most disappointing teams in NFL history based on preseason projections versus what actually hit the field.
At this point, it is fair to say that it would have been better for the Buccaneers and Brady if the latter had simply stayed retired. Sure, it would’ve hurt for a time and put the team in a rough spot, but it isn’t like coming back has done a lot to help Brady’s legacy and this season has only push the Bucs a year further from being back in a contending spot.
Brady coming back prolonged the inevitable. Even if this team does make the playoffs, it isn’t like anyone should expect that product to be any better than what we have seen over the past few months.
The Buccaneers are broken. Tom Brady is playing poorly. The only reason why this team hasn’t packed it up and started looking at the other quarterbacks on the roster to see what the future holds is that the NFC South is the worst division in football.
The future isn’t bright for the Buccaneers. The present isn’t that bright for Tom Brady and company either.
