After a silly tweet last night that made it seem like he was open to returning to football and potentially the Buccaneers, Rob Gronkowski killed the idea.

Not that it ever takes all that much, but Buccaneers Twitter was set aflame last night by Rob Gronkowski after a very simple Tweet went out saying he was “bored.”

What could this mean?

Many fans for teams across the league rubbed their hands together at the thought that the greatest tight end in NFL history was open to a return to the league, and Bucs fans were not alone in their thoughts that this one addition could make a positive change on the rest of the season.

Unfortunately for everyone, this proved to be a silly marketing scheme.

No one should’ve seen this as a real cry to return to league, but it does suck to see the door finally close after a few months of thinking that Tom Brady could eventually get his friend back on the field to save the season.

Now, the Buccaneers are going to need to find a way to keep their passing attack alive without the help from the Hall of Fame talent.

The good news for the Bucs is that they do have the bodies to make this work if they start making some of the right moves. He might be a different overall talent, but Cade Otton is proving to be a great draft pick that is exceeding expectations in every way, so he should have plenty of opportunities down the stretch and into the playoffs.

It’s going to be tough, but this news doesn’t kill the chances for a good rest of the season. Gronk was never going to be the x-factor, but it still would’ve been nice to see him play one more time in pewter and red.
