Buccaneers MVP continuing to prove value in new scheme
By Rob Leeds
The Buccaneers were able to win a football game despite playing against themselves the whole night because Ryan Succop is still a dominant player.
It sure does feel great that the Buccaneers have a great kicker. Where would that game have gone without Ryan Succop on the field for Tampa?
Hint; that game would not have been very fun at all.
The Buccaneers, a team that was known for its offense that was able to score at will for the better part of a decade, has been unable to do much of anything this season due to a scheme that is far too passive.
Byron Leftwich and Todd Bowles are slowly starting to kill this team with their conservative offensive tendencies.
Regardless, it didn’t kill the Bucs when they weren’t able to find the end zone because Ryan Succop was money tonight.
Succop finished the game tonight with four makes on four attempts, the final being the game winner after a tense overtime period. Not a lot of kickers in Tampa’s past would be able to do something similar.
Performances like these from Succop have been pivotal for a Bucs team that just can’t score in the end zone. As painful as it may be, Succop has become one of the most important players for this team and it doesn’t look like that is going to change any time soon.
As long as Byron Leftwich and Todd Bowles are in control of this team, the Bucs are going o need a kicker that is going to be this effective in the short to intermediate range.
Thank goodness for Succop. The playoff chances got marginally better for the Buccaneers tonight, but they still need to make sure that next weekend goes well.
