The Cowboys might be a tough team to face in the first round of the playoffs, but the Buccaneers have a more important opponent to defeat first.
The Dallas Cowboys are a good football team; any Buccaneers fan that tries to tell you otherwise is hilariously-wrong.
However, the Cowboys aren’t the most important opponent for the Bucs on Monday night in the first round of the playoffs.
In reality, if the Bucs want to win against Dallas and move on to the second round during what has been a very disappointing season, they have to beat themselves and their own bad tendencies above all else.
The Buccaneers have been the worst thing working against the Buccaneers this season. This team is talented, it has experience, and it is led by some of the best players in the NFL at most of the important positions. The losses this seasons have come because the team can’t get past itself more often than not.
Tampa has to kill its own bad tendencies before it can ever think about beating the Cowboys. Run the ball in a smart way. Establish the pass and open the box up. Don’t kick 50-yard field goals. Go for it on fourth and short in your opponent’s territory.
None of this is difficult or revolutionary, yet the Bucs have been terrible at doing the easy stuff right this season due to a coaching staff that can’t overcome itself.
The Buccaneers players have been facing their opponents and their own leadership for most of the season and still found a way to sneak into the playoffs. With games getting much more difficult and with a lot more on the line, the Bucs have to beat themselves and their own mistakes before the game starts if they want to move deeper into the playoffs.
