Buccaneers fans should be happy with news of needed change

The Buccaneers desperately need a change at their offensive coordinator role to get back to a good place. It sounds like that is finally happening.

Byron Leftwich has experienced one of the largest falls from grace in the NFL after his most recent season with the Buccaneers. It’s hard to find a lot of guys that go from being head coaching candidates to being one of the worst offensive coordinators in the league in just one short year.

Make no mistake about it; Byron Leftwich was bad in 2022. Of all the people to blame such a disappointing season on, Leftwich’s name should be at the top of the list.

The Bucs had every opportunity to rightfully fire Leftwich several times during the season, especially once the whole world saw that Tampa’s offense had become one of the worst in the league, and the decision to keep Leftwich played a substantial role in the Bucs staying bad in that aspect of the game down the stretch.

While the Bucs have waited way too long to make such a decision, it is at least good that they have finally made the right decision to get Leftwich out of the building. Better late than never, we just wish that the team came to the same conclusion that everyone with eyes did several months ago.

This is great news for a Bucs team that desperately needs to get back to being one of the best offenses in the NFL. The pieces are still there. A change in this role could be all Tampa needs to get back to being a Super Bowl contender; the Buccaneers just have to make sure that they make the right decisions in the coming months.

Byron Leftwich was a great head coach under Bruce Arians and the fanbase should be grateful for what he was able to accomplish with this team, but it has been clear for some time now that the Arians magic has left the building, and Leftwich’s time has come.
