After making it clear he wants to leave Tampa Bay, a potential Devin White trade destination is already emerging.

For an offseason full of plot twists for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, fans would rather have skipped the latest one to have dropped. Devin White, the team’s Pro Bowl linebacker and former first-round pick, has reportedly requested a trade.

This comes after negotiations around his upcoming contract extension reportedly broke down. White is entering the fifth year of his rookie contract, and is expected to get a deal in the range of $100 million however it seems the Bucs aren’t willing to pay that.

Without a willingness to agree to a deal, it seems a trade is a likely conclusion to White’s career in Tampa Bay. He posted some cryptic Instagram messages earlier in the offseason that seemed to suggest he would be leaving the team soon, but he walked those back and brushed them off.

As it turns out, there was something to them all along.

The question now becomes where will White end up? It’s possible the Bucs simply keep him and then franchise tag him next season to try and work out a long-term deal. A trade would free up $11 million in cap space and give the Bucs some extra draft picks to rebuild to the roster with.

If the team goes the latter route, a potential trade partner is already emerging.

Bucs Rumors: Giants emerge as potential Devin White trade destination

While the shock of White’s request is still sinking in, business still needs to be conducted. Assuming White is traded — which isn’t a foregone conclusion to all of this drama — the Bucs need to determine the best possible landing spot that will return the best trade package.

One potential landing spot that is emerging appears to be the New York Giants. With an up-and-coming team that made waves last year, White seems like a perfect fit for a defense that needs to make sure it’s accounting for being in a division with Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott.

Giants fans heard White’s request and immediately went to work petitioning the front office to make a deal and add White to the defense.

When considering a Devin White trade, one thing that needs to be taken into account is if makes any sense for a team to acquire him. It’s easy to throw together trade predictions and just list teams that are popular, but it’s a different thing to consider if it actually makes sense.

For the Giants, adding White makes sense in that they’re a team looking to continue making a splash and building on the special season they had last year. White would slide next to free agent addition Bobby Okereke and form a pretty dangerous duo in the Giants secondary — not unlike what he did in Tampa Bay with Lavonte David and Shaq Barrett.

New York also has some draft capital to spend on making a deal happen. Realistically a second-round and a fifth-round pick could get a deal done, which would be a pretty nice package for the Bucs to get in return.

The tricky part is paying White. One hangup in any potential trade would be the fact that White is headed for a massive contract extension and whatever team trades for him would need to have that business taken care of.

Are the Giants willing to give White $100 million after having just paid Daniel Jones a huge deal with another for Saquon Barkley potentially on the horizon?

On paper the deal makes sense but the financial aspect is something that will be a potential roadblock in any trade talks.
