While Mayer might not be the top option for the Bucs — or one that’s realistic without paying a price to trade up — there are more traditional receivers Tampa Bay could roll the dice with to spice up the offense.

Todd Bowles got to add to his defense with the team’s top choice but one of the Day 2 picks could be used to solidify the offense.

9. player. 815. . Wide Receiver. Sooners . Marvin Mims

What Marvin Mims offers the Buccaneers is something it doesn’t have but could add dynamic to the offense. At just 5’11” he’d be the shortest of the Bucs Big 3 receivers next the Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, but that just gives whoever is quarterback a variant in the scheme.

Mims could fill a slot receiver role that Scotty Miller so perfectly fit into during Tom Brady’s first season in Tampa Bay. He has speed to make up for his lack of size, and his height certainly didn’t hold him back at Oklahoma.

Jonathan Mingo gets some credit here as well, since he slots in as a very viable option for the Bucs even if both Mims and Tillman are on the board. He’s more adjacent to Tillman’s talents than Mims but the Bucs can’t go wrong using him the same way they would the Tennessee wide receiver.

8. player. 839. . Wide Receiver. Volunteers . Cedric Tillman

Daniel Jeremiah called Tillman one of the players we could be looking back at in a year wondering how he lasted so long in the draft. He’s a 6’3” vacuum who only dropped five catchable passes in his career with the Volunteers.

With Mike Evans a free agent next year and Chris Godwin only under contract through 2024, there will soon be a need for the Bucs to replenish the receiving corp — especially if a young quarterback comes in next year.

Tillman has work to do before he’s a top-tier wide out and he’s far from a replacement for Evans. But he has the tools to develop into a top target in the Bucs offense and add some flair to this year’s draft class in Tampa Bay.
