Vita Vea shockingly requested a trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as he continues to seek a contract extension.
The request is widely viewed as purely a negotiating tactic. Vea doesn’t actually want to leave Tampa Bay, nor do the Bucs have any interest in trading him. Heck, they just revealed his mural outside of Raymond James Stadium for the upcoming season, showcasing his importance to the organization.
In all likelihood, the Buccaneers won’t trade Vea. He’s the anchor of Todd Bowles' defense and one of the team’s most important players. Replacing him in such short notice ahead of the 2026 season would be impossible.
Still, the right trade offer could make the Buccaneers reconsider their stance. If Jason Licht is blown away by a trade package, Tampa Bay would be forced to consider whether a blockbuster trade is too good to pass up.

If these mock trade packages feel lopsided in the Buccaneers' favor, that's because they are. Tampa Bay doesn't want to part ways with their cornerstone defensive player, and a trade isn't worth considering unless another team is willing to overpay for Vea.
Otherwise, the Bucs will be perfectly content to hold on to him and make him play out his contract year.

Acquiring a talented young cornerback along with a second round pick and a late-round pick swap would be quite the haul for Tampa Bay.
The Buccaneers desperately need to improve the cornerback depth, and Darien Porter could be a solution for both the present and future.
Porter was one of my favorite targets for Tampa Bay during the 2025 NFL Draft process. He’s a prototypical Todd Bowles cornerback with a rare combination of size and speed.
The 6-foot-2 corner runs a 4.3 40-yard dash, giving him a physical and athletic profile reminiscent of Zyon McCollum — and Porter might have an even higher ceiling.
Losing Vea is far from ideal, but this trade package would soften the blow.

The Buccaneers would have to give this trade offer some serious consideration. Gervon Dexter Sr. is only 25 years old, and has recorded 11 sacks through his first two NFL seasons, giving Tampa Bay a young interior defender with pass rush upside to help replace some of Vea’s impact.
Tight end also remains a bit of a question mark in Tampa Bay with a lack of proven depth behind Cade Otton. Cole Kmet would immediately upgrade the position and address one of the biggest weaknesses on the roster.
If Tampa Bay could acquire both Dexter and Kmet while adding a Day 3 draft pick in the process, they’d have a difficult choice turning down that offer for Vea.

The Rams are already Super Bowl favorites, and acquiring Vea would be the epitome of “the rich get richer.”
Adding Vea to a defensive front that already features Myles Garrett, Byron Young and Kobie Turner — on top of Aaron Donald potentially coming out of retirement — would simply be unfair to the rest of the league.
The Bucs would have to account for that in trade talks and demand a premium return from Los Angeles.
Colby Parkinson is coming off a career year with 400 yards eight touchdown receptions, but the depth of their tight end room could make him a movable asset.
Braden Fiske isn’t a seamless fit to replace Vea as the nose tackle per say, but he’d be a disruptive force on the interior, as he proved when he recorded 8.5 sacks as a rookie back in 2024.
Landing Fiske, Parkinson, and a Day 3 pick would be a strong consolation prize for Tampa Bay if they decided to move on from their franchise defensive tackle.
