To say that Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans are in the dumps right now would be an understatement. How could they not be after Mike Evans not only spurned the team in free agency but apparently wanted to leave all along?
Well, new Bucs defender A'Shawn Robinson is here to try and bring a smile to fans' faces. While speaking to the media on Friday, Robinson said that the Buccaneers defense, in particular Vita Vea, is what drew him to sign with Tampa in free agency.
“Got the big dog up front. He eats people, kills people, destroys ‘em," Robinson said.
A'Shawn Robinson's comments should make Bucs fans feel a tad bit better
Now, look, this doesn't erase what happened with Evans. That pain honestly might never go away knowing that the Buccaneers tried their best to keep him and he simply just wanted out. But, Robinson clearly still sees the Bucs for the reputation they've built up for themselves, which is a good place to play. That is a good sign for the fans who might be feeling down after how the whole Evans saga played out.
Robinson wanting to come to Tampa Bay proves that the Bucs aren't a sad franchise. They're still a respected organization and that part wasn't necessarily why Evans wanted a change of scenery for the first time in his pro career. It's understandable that Buccaneers fans might still be offended and hurt by it but Robinson at least recognizes this team's potential.
Bucs fans are hoping that Robinson can be another wrecking ball on this defense in 2026. The former second-round pick has spent time with the Lions, Rams, Giants, and Panthers, and now the Buccaneers will be the fifth team of his career. He had 2.5 sacks last year in 17 games and 16 starts with the Panthers last year.
Let's hope that Robinson can join Vea and demolish offenses in 2026. That would certainly put a smile on Buccaneers fans' faces.
