The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have finally found their next offensive coordinator, hiring Zac Robinson to lead the offense. After an extensive search since their season ended, the Buccaneers got Robinson in their building for an interview, and the job was his before he could even leave town. Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield reportedly played a big role in the Bucs landing Robinson.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared that the veteran quarterback had been pulling for Robinson, because they spent time together with the Los Angeles Rams back in 2022. It was a memorable experience for Mayfield, so he wanted to reunite with the offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay. He got his wish, and the Bucs have a new OC.

Buccaneers hire Zac Robinson after strong push from Baker Mayfield
Mayfield was a late-season pick up for the Rams in 2022, being claimed on waivers in December. He still ended up starting four games and playing in five total. In those games, Mayfield completed 63.6% of his passes for four touchdowns and two interceptions. Robinson was serving as the pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the time, and apparently built a great relationship that has led him to Tampa Bay.
After the Rams, and before the Bucs, Robinson spent two years as the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons — a team Baker Mayfield is excited to play moving forward. In Atlanta, Robinson’s offenses averaged 22.9 points per game in 2024, and 20.8 this season. The Falcons, as a team, ultimately underwhelmed, leading to them resetting, but Robinson had some exciting moments with the talented offensive players in Atlanta.
Now, he comes to the Buccaneers, with a quarterback he’s familiar with and some exciting offensive weapons. Prior to this season, Tampa Bay’s offense was a head coach maker. Dave Canales was the offensive coordinator in 2023 before getting hired by the Carolina Panthers, and Liam Coen was the team’s OC in 2024 before he went to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Josh Grizzard didn’t have the same fate in 2025, but the hope is that Zac Robinson can get things back on track. If he can, he could be in line for a head coaching position.
