Baker Mayfield already has as many fourth-quarter comebacks and game-winning drives through two games of the 2025 campaign than he did all of last year.
First, it was his heroic efforts in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' regular-season opening defeat of the Atlanta Falcons. Then, the star quarterback somehow encored and even upstaged the theatrics with a thrilling primetime Week 2 victory over the Houston Texans.
Mayfield drove the Buccaneers down the field in the closing stages of their Monday Night Football showdown in Houston. It wasn't the cleanest performance from Tampa Bay, but it was honest work as the team improved to 2-0.
The two-time Pro Bowler echoed that sentiment in the immediate aftermath of being on the right side of this hard-fought battle.

"Got another win, [it] didn't have to be pretty," Mayfield declared (h/t the NFL's official X/Twitter account). "Monday Night Football, though. 2-0."
Baker Mayfield fittingly embraces the chaos after Buccaneers win vs. Texans
The relief Mayfield felt after guiding the Bucs to beating the Texans was apparent from the start of his postgame media availability. He kicked off the press conference with a head scratch and satisfied smirk before uttering out a soft yet joyous "yes" before taking questions.

A reporter then asked Mayfield about Rachaad White, who sealed the contest with a short touchdown in the final seconds. The gritty signal-caller gave well-deserved credit to his veteran backfield mate for giving Tampa Bay a much-needed boost with good, hard-nosed rushing.
"I thought [White] did great," Mayfield said. "Coming in, and taking advantage of his. Physical running -- really breaking some tackles and opening up the run game. [It] was a spark that we needed there when we were kind of stalling out on offense."
While Mayfield cited "self-inflicted wounds," he complimented his Bucs comrades for adjusting accordingly, particularly on their last possession. The 2018 No. 1 overall pick believes in the supporting cast around him to execute at a high level in pressure moment. They've prepared for all circumstances, and it showed against the Texans.
" ... [The Texans made a] little bit of a mix-up personnel-wise and schematically," Mayfield stated. "Coming into the two-minute situation, something that we drill all the time, just relying on our guys to be able to make plays and do the little things right."
Trust aside, Mayfield and the Bucs hope to avoid another nail-biter in what should be a softer Week 3 matchup versus the New York Jets. Tampa Bay can't expect to dramatically dig themselves out of holes often, and it starts with handling inferior opponents.
