Baker Mayfield gave the perfect shoutout to Sean Tucker after breakout game in Week 6
By Josh Hill
Sunday afternoon was a textbook definition of a roller coaster ride for Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans. After the team blew a 17-point lead in roughly seven minutes, the Bucs responded by holding the Saints scoreless in the second half while dropping a 50 burger on their rivals.
It was delicious, even if things looked a little dicey early on.
Tampa Bay flipped a switch in the second half, scoring 27 unanswered points while shredding the Saints' defense. A big part of that was the success of the run game, which is an entirely foreign concept for Bucs fans after what they've lived through over the last few years.
Rachaad White missed the game with a foot injury, which meant Bucky Irving took over as RB1. He had a fantastic game, but it was Sean Tucker who ended up stealing the show and finally delivering on the promise he showed as a UDFA last offseason.
Baker Mayfield had the perfect reaction to Sean Tucker's breakout game in Week 6
Tucker finished the game 192 total yards and two touchdowns, and it's impossible to overstate how cathartic that was to see. He was the team's leading rusher and helped both keep the Bucs in the game when things were going off the rails in the first half while also putting the exclamation point on the blowout at the end.
After the game, Baker Mayfield made sure to shout Tucker out for how well he played and how important he was to the game flipping in Tampa Bay's favor.
"That was a huge jump he just took today," Mayfield said of Tucker. "When they know we're running the ball and loading the box up, there's going to be some guys are unblocked and to make people miss and have those explosive plays was huge."
It wasn't just Tucker who stepped up. Graham Barton, who has helped lead the way on some of Bucky Irving's highlight reel plays, was out which meant Robert Hainsey stepped up to start. Baker shouted out the work of the offensive line as well, a crew that helped block for 277 rushing yards on the afternoon.
"That was a physically imposing game upfront," Mayfield said. "We need to be able to bring that mentality week in and week out."
It was a collective effort, but Tucker by far stands out as one of the best player of the afternoon. That's saying a lot considering we saw Antoine Winfield returned a fumble for a touchdown and Chris Godwin went sicko mode and finished with 125 yards andtwo touchdowns.
Tucker was a sleeper last offseason when he came to Tampa Bay as an undrafted rookie out of Syracuse, and this is the performanc we were all waiting to see. His big day doesn't so much create a controversey in the running back room as it does adds another horse to the stable as the team finally begins to fix one of the biggest issues holding the offense back.
If it looks anything like it did on Sunday, the Bucs are going to be dangerous moving forward.
