The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded up in the sixth round to select LSU tight end Bauer Sharp.

The toolsy tight end prospect should have no problem building chemistry with quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Baker Mayfield and Bauer Sharp have an Oklahoma connection

Before being selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Baker Mayfield made a name for himself at the University of Oklahoma.

He played threee seasons there and won a Heisman Trophy. If you know anything about Mayfield, he takes a ton of pride in his Alma mater, and keeps a close eye on Sooners football.

Bucs draft pick Bauer Sharp only spent one season at Oklahoma, but he made his mark. He led the team in receptions in 2024, and it’s fair to assume he caught Mayfield’s eye in the process.

Now, the two will be teaming up in Tampa Bay. As a late-round pick with just a few years of experience at the tight end position, he’ll have his work cut out for him in earning a role.

Sharp will be competing with Ko Kieft, Payne Durham, and Devin Culp in the tight end room. Kieft's job is likely safe as a reliable blocker and special teams contributor.

Durham and Culp haven't proven too much from a receiving standpoint, combining for only two catches last season.

Sharp would be wise to utilize his Oklahoma connection with Mayfield to form some chemistry and become a trusted target, which will go a long way toward beating out the competition and cementing his roster spot.
