Not a single Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan was backing Todd Bowles at the end of the 2025 NFL regular season, as Bowles was the biggest reason why the Bucs totally collapsed and didn't even make the playoffs despite playing in the easiest division in the NFL. The Bucs blowing the NFC South lead was an act of historic ineptitude, and while the entire coaching staff got fired, Bowles kept his job, with few understanding the logic from the Glazers. Even Mike Evans left a great offer on the table to avoid being coached by Bowles, and that spoke volumes about the lack of faith in the head coach.
Now that the Buccaneers are 0-3 to start the season, the seat under Bowles could not be hotter. Bowles isn't the only reason why the Bucs have been so terrible to start the season - and you could argue that Baker Mayfield has been the biggest problem with three awful performances since signing a massive contract - but the buck stops with him. And in terms of X's and O's, man management, and in game coaching, Bowles is, once again, among the worst in the league when comparing him to every other head coach in the business.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need an offensive guru for Baker Mayfield
It may not be this week or next week, and knowing how much of a leash the Glazers have given him despite years of costing the Buccaneers wins - even stealing Tom Brady's last year from him - it surely won't be as soon as Bucs fans would like. But Todd Bowles' days as Buccaneers head coach are numbered, and it is only a matter of time before he gets replaced.
When the Buccaneers do finally replace Bowles, it's 100 percent obvious that no matter who they hire as his replacement, they need to go with an offensive minded head coach. They should have promoted Liam Coen from offensive coordinator years ago, and the success that he and David Canales are having with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers, respectively, in turning those franchises around by improving Trevor Lawrence and Bryce Young under center really highlights just how big of a mistake it has been for Tampa to back Bowles.
Baker Mayfield isn't going to get any better without a real offensive leader, and with his contract, he's not leaving any time soon. And he doesn't have to, because we saw how good Baker can be when he has a competent, offensive guru in charge like Liam Coen. Zac Robinson, the Bucs new offensive coordinator, was horrendous for the rival Atlanta Falcons and has been calling plays worse than even Josh Grizzard to start this season. He isn't the answer. But a new, offensive guru to run the entire show and rip the keys out of Bowles's clutches is the solution.
