The Tampa Bay Buccaneers might have an absolute workhorse at inside linebacker in Lavonte David but they could certainly use more help at the position. OurLads has the starting inside linebacker next to David being SirVocea Dennis, a former fifth-round pick out of Pittsburgh in 2023.
While Dennis might end up being a talented player, he has zero starts in his two years with the team and has struggled with injuries. The Bucs also might want to find someone with more starting experience. If they do -- and this would be a risky move, yes -- perhaps they should consider inking free-agent De'Vondre Campbell.
Some of you might recognize the name and others might not. For those that don't, let's discuss why Campbell could be seen as a risky signing for not just the Bucs, but any team.
Last year, while playing for the 49ers, Campbell flat-out refused to enter a game against the Rams late in the season. Campbell did not give 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan a reason for why he didn't want to enter the game and was later cut by the team.
De'Vondre Campbell might be worth the risk for the Bucs
Some Bucs fans won't want any part of Campbell joining the team and it's perfectly understandable why they'd feel that way. Campbell essentially quit on the 49ers when he was with them a season ago and that's more than likely the reason he's still waiting for a new team to sign him despite being an All-Pro linebacker just four years ago.
That All-Pro status is a reason why the Bucs should be interested in bringing Campbell aboard. He's a veteran with a lot of experience in the NFL and gives them another option to consider alongside Dennis. If Dennis wins the job over the summer, then there's the answer but it could be worth bringing Campbell in to see if he has anything left in the tank.
Also, if nothing else, he could stick it to his old team, the Falcons, by signing with a division rival and maybe even reinventing himself with a new team.
