Peete joined the Buccaneers two years ago when Dave Canales was putting together his coaching staff after landing the offensive coordinator gig. He came over from the Dallas Cowboys with a pedigree that suggested he could help fix what was one of the league's worst rushing attacks.
He had just coached up Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard into one of the best backfield duos in the NFL with the Cowboys, and the hope was that he'd do that with Rachaad White, which he eventually did. Peete helped the Bucs run game turn into an absolute force, and with Bucky Irving is a key figure on one of the most explosive offenses around.
Above his coaching skills, Peete is a universally respected and well-liked coach. Whether it's folks he spent time with in Dallas, his current colleagues in Tampa, or the various others he's interacted with over the course of his football journey, not many have bad things to say about Peete.
That makes hardly a shock that he's someone the Bucs wanted to bring in to try and help change the culture, and it's no surprise that it worked.
It sounds like this situation is going to turn out well, which is a major relief on a number of levels. This isn't about football, and it's a reminder that some things are bigger than the game.
