The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are closing in on their first preseason game of the year. Players who are hoping to make the roster or secure a spot in the starting lineup will need to show the coaches what they can do. Benjamin Morrison will not be one of those guys.
Drafted in the 2nd round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Morrison was expected to challenge for a starting job last year. That didn't quite work out. The corner started just three games, despite appearing in 10. Entering camp this year, the expectations were doubled, and so far, he has been unavailable.
Morrison is trying to get back on the field after a while dealing with a hamstring injury that has kept him off the field. On Wednesday, he suited up for the first time, but only for warm-ups and individual drills. He needs to get back on the field.

Once Morrison is back on the field, he will need to show why the Buccaneers made him a second-round pick. He needs to get into playing shape and prove that the starting job is his. He will need to take it from Zyon McCollum.
McCollum has looked good in camp so far. Morrison isn't going to be handed the job. It's regularly said that starters don't lose their jobs to injury, but Morrison was never truly a regular starter.
It's tough trying to make strides in a league where availability is as important as reliability. For Morrison, it's not just McCollum he has to chase. Jacob Parrish has the other boundary locked down, currently listed as the starter on the initial depth chart.
From the seat Morrison is sitting in, it has to look daunting. Missing the first two weeks of camp set him back. When he does get on the field, the team will keep a close eye on him to make sure he doesn't reaggravate the issue.
Morrison will more than likely miss this weekend's game, so he has to have week two circled because it may be his only chance to show he deserves a shot at the starting job.
His absence has opened the door of opportunity for the other guys in the unit, but now the question becomes: can he live up to the expectations the team had for him this season? His window to prove it isn't going to stay open long.
